| Bess joined us from the Poolstead kennel in 1994 at the
age of four months. We had started showing with Mac, our |
|
|
chocolate boy, and we thought it was time to acquire a
young bitch as company for |
| him, and to widen our showing interests. Bess
made herself at home very quickly, |
| and soon learned that Mac would happily defer to
her every whim! She became the |
| boss, and she still is - to all our
dogs. |
| We had some success in the show-ring with Bess, and
the next logical step was to |
| let her have some puppies. We mated her to
Watermere Bobby Dazzler, a |
| beautiful big black dog, and on |
 |
| St.David's Day 1996, she presented us |
| with eight gorgeous black puppies - 4 dogs and 4
bitches. We kept a dog and a |
| bitch from that first litter, Bonnie and Clyde. |
| Despite all the hard work involved in raising puppies, we
enjoyed the experience, |
| and in 1998 decided to do it again. This time we
mated Bess with another |
| Poolstead dog, Poolstead Part Fiction at Nirian.
This resulted in the birth of just |
| four puppies in October 1998. This time she had
two black bitches, one yellow |
| bitch and one black dog. All of these went to new homes. One day later, Bess'
|
| daughter, Bonnie, gave birth to a litter of four puppies as well,
so Bess became a mother and grandmother within two days! |
| Bess has retired from both showing and breeding now,
and will spend the rest of her days ruling the roost here at home. |
