| Bonnie and Clyde were born on St.David’s Day (the
patron Saint of Wales), March 1st 1996 to our black bitch,
Bess. |
 |
They were from the first puppies that we had
bred ourselves, and were part of a |
| litter of eight gorgeous black pups, four dogs
and four bitches. |
| We had really only intended to keep one from the
litter, but we fell prey to their |
| puppy charms and ended up with the two! We soon
discovered that trying to train |
| two puppies to do anything was much more than
twice as hard as training one - |
| they were always more interested in playing |

|
| with each other than in what we were doing! |
| We managed it in the end, but I don’t think
that we will fall into the same trap again, |
| (not until the next time, anyway). We had always
intended to show both puppies, and |
| started to take them to training classes from the
age of about four months.
Bonnie |
| took to the show-ring straight away, but Clyde,
after a promising start, decided that |
| he didn’t like being put on parade and that
there was no way he was going to be |
| shown in public. There being no point in forcing
him to do something he didn’t enjoy, |
| he is now a full-time house pet along with his
mother and Mac who have both retired |
| from showing. Bonnie, however, continues to enjoy
the shows and has had reasonable success at open show level, although |
| she has never managed better than a third place
in a Championship Show. In 1998 we bred Bonnie with Bradking Woody
of |
| Llanstinan, a beautiful yellow dog, and in October of that year she presented us
with three black puppies and one yellow, all
|
| bitches. We still have one from that litter - the yellow girl, Willow.
In January 2000, Bonnie was mated to Pennyroyals |
| Dutchman
of Farnfield, and on March 28th produced a litter of ten black
puppies, of which we kept a dog, Toby. |
