| Toby entered the world on
March 28th 2000, one of nine black puppies (six dogs and three bitches) born to Bonnie - her |

second
litter. His sire is Pennyroyals Dutchman at Farnfield, a black dog
imported from |
| Holland, now owned by the Farnfield kennel
near Swansea, some forty miles from us. |
| It was a difficult choice of which puppy to
keep. All the puppies were very similar in |
| size and weight, and the visible differences
were tiny! However, we chose Toby and |
| once his brothers and sisters had gone to their
new homes he very soon became an |
| established member of the family. |
| Like most Labrador puppies, Toby went through the |
|
| usual stages of looking very long-legged and gangly, |
| but has settled down now. As with most of our
breeding line, he is quite slow to mature, |
| and although fully grown in height, he still
needs to 'fill out' a bit. Like his father , he has |
| a remarkably thick double coat - much more so
than the rest of our dogs. |
| In common with the rest of the gang, we
took Toby to show-training classes from the |
| age of about fourteen weeks, in order to let him
get used to lots of people and other |
| dogs. Being naturally very friendly, he
enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the classes, and |
| really loved having all those new dogs to play
with! He settled into the discipline of the show-ring very
naturally, although to |
| this day, he still has a mad five minutes or so
of excitement when he enters a show venue. Toby has enjoyed some
success |
| in the show-ring at Open Shows, and has
recently begun to be placed at Championship level. |
| Toby is a very happy and affectionate dog (he
loves licking people's ears!) and has a wonderful overall temperament. |
